SESSION 4 Getting Recession Ready with PR 10 February 2021 2:00-3:30pm Speaker: Robert Fiehn - Architectural Communications The UK is heading into an uncertain economic period and we’re already starting to see the effects on budgets and the amount of jobs out there. If there’s one thing we have learnt from the 2008 financial crisis, it’s that now is not the time for architectural practices to entrench and go quiet. Dependable clients might start to pause projects and stable sectors will experience new pressures and constraints. Your practice needs to be the first one on someone’s mind when they’re thinking on commissioning a new scheme which means consistent and clear messaging. There are lots of ways to communicate with the outside world and your plan has to be tailored to the specific needs of your business and audience. The trick is to get organised and use what limited resources are available to make sure people hear from you, whether that’s in the press, across social media or direct marketing. ABOUT THE SPEAKER Robert Fiehn is a London-based freelance communications consultant, dedicated to professional and cultural activities within the architectural community. With a career spanning books, exhibitions, concepts, thought-leadership, profiling and built projects (both temporary and permanent), Robert has the experience and passion to produce strategic advice for architects, designers and institutions. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of the Museum of Architecture, a Committee Member of the London Society, a Board Director for the Blackhorse Workshop in Walthamstow and a trustee of the DKUK gallery in Peckham.
